Abdirahman AbdiOn a New York Road Runners conference call today to announce that Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall, and Abdi Abdirahman—the entire 2012 U.S. Olympic Men's Marathon Team—would compete in the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K on May 12, Abdirahman was joined by his long-time training partner, two-time Olympic medalist Bernard Lagat.

Put the guns down, Butch and Sundance. Pull the car over, Thelma and Louise. It's time for Kip and Abdi.

"We just have great respect for both of you and [for] your friendship that's helped both of you at the highest level," said NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.

The two have been close friends all the way back to their college days in the late 1990s, when Abdirahman, now 35, competed for the University of Arizona and Lagat, now 37, for PAC-10 rival Washington State.

A few years after graduation, Lagat had to decide whether to follow his coach, James Li, from Pullman to Tucson. Knowing that Abdirahman was already there made the change an easy one.

"It's the first time NYRR will host a complete Olympic men's marathon team prior to the Games, and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this talented trio's road to London," said New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg in making the announcement.

The three will be chasing a first-place prize of $25,000, the largest winner's purse in the world for a 10K.

Fifth Ave MileRae Baymiller, 68, set a single-age world record in the New York Colon Cancer Challenge 15K on Sunday, running 1:07:36 to win the 65-69 age group and finish 33rd out of 1,464 women. Her time smashed the previous record by almost nine minutes.

It's hardly the first entry in the record books for Baymiller, a Central Park Track Club New Balance member who splits her time between Santa Fe, NM, and New York City.

According to the Association of Road Racing Statisticians, Baymiller currently owns five single-age world records:

  • 15K, Age 54 (59:03) and Age 67 (1:06:43);
  • Half-Marathon, Age 67 (1:33:43) and Age 68 (1:37:50); and
  • Marathon, Age 55: 2:52:14

Asked how many U.S. and world single-age and age-group records she has held in her career, Baymiller says she has no idea.
