The Jacob Javits Convention Center is already packed—but not with runners. I dodged security (okay, I had staff credentials, so don't get any ideas), forklifts, and boxes of gear to find a scene more serene than what’s coming tomorrow.

In spite of the countless tasks to get done, or perhaps because of it, the experts—be they exhibitors, NYRR staff, security, or other—seem to have it all under control. I think they’ve done this before.
On my preview tour of the ING New York City Health and Fitness Expo, I bumped into a few friendly folks who are sweating to get the walls up and the freebies ready for the runners who’ll descend on the expo Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I could see the shell of great things to come, including the ING New York City Marathon 2009 official clothing line and all the products a runner could hope to find in one place.
On my trip through Times Square and back, I managed to dodge raindrops (okay, I’m soaking), talk marathon with my cabbie, and find out where they keep the horses for those buggy rides tourists love (really, I saw a lone horse hanging out in an open garage). You never know what you’ll see on your way to the expo, but you’re sure to feel the buzz once you get inside!

These guys may not be ready for the party now, but they'll be all decked out by tomorrow.
